Freer Periosteal Elevator, 19cm — Overview

The Freer Periosteal Elevator (S6-109-00 family) is a 19cm double-ended periosteal elevator available in 5.0mm and 6.5mm working widths, one of the most widely recognized and commonly stocked periosteal elevator designs across ENT, maxillofacial, and plastic surgery, used to separate the periosteum from underlying bone.

Why the Freer Design Is Widely Used

The Freer elevator's design — typically double-ended with two different working profiles on a single handle — gives the surgeon two related elevation or dissection functions without switching instruments, a practical efficiency that has made this one of the standard periosteal elevator designs across multiple surgical specialties, from septal surgery to maxillofacial bone exposure.

Two Widths

The 5.0mm width suits finer, more precise elevation in confined areas; the 6.5mm width covers broader periosteal separation where more surface area needs to be addressed per pass.

Material and Construction

Manufactured from surgical-grade stainless steel and hand-finished in Sialkot, Pakistan, with smoothly finished working edges at both widths designed for clean periosteal elevation without gouging bone.

Sterilization and Care

Fully autoclavable in both widths. The working edges should be inspected before each use for nicks or burrs that could tear tissue during elevation.
