About this instrument

Bruening Tongue Depressor, 19cm — Overview

The Bruening Tongue Depressor (S27-139-19) is a 19cm tongue depressor, longer than the Andrew design elsewhere in this range, used to hold the tongue clear of the surgical field during oral, pharyngeal, and maxillofacial procedures requiring deeper access into the oral cavity or oropharynx.

Why a Longer Depressor

At 19cm, this depressor reaches further into the oral cavity than shorter designs, useful for procedures accessing the posterior tongue, oropharynx, or deeper maxillofacial structures where a shorter instrument wouldn't provide adequate reach or leverage to hold the tongue clear throughout the procedure.

Design

Like the Andrew depressor, the Bruening design features a smooth, broad working surface for firm but atraumatic tongue displacement, scaled up in length for deeper surgical access.

Clinical Use

This depressor is used in maxillofacial, ENT-adjacent, and intraoral procedures requiring deeper oral cavity or oropharyngeal access than a standard-length tongue depressor provides.

Material and Construction

Manufactured from surgical-grade stainless steel and hand-finished in Sialkot, Pakistan, with a smooth, rounded working edge designed for atraumatic tissue contact.

Sterilization and Care

Fully autoclavable and intended for repeated reuse. Routine inspection for surface damage or deformation of the working blade is standard practice.

Ordering

The Bruening Tongue Depressor, 19cm, SKU S27-139-19, is supplied by Scatter Instruments to hospitals, surgery centers, and distributors internationally, with bulk pricing and OEM or private-label branding available on request.
