The Cottle Chisel, Graduated Hollow Cut (S5-107-00 family) is an 18cm bone chisel available in 5.0mm and 12.0mm widths, featuring both a graduated (marked) shaft for measuring cut depth and a hollow-cut blade profile, part of the broader Cottle rhinoplasty instrument system.

Graduated Shaft

Graduation markings along the shaft let the surgeon monitor how far the chisel has advanced into the bone during a cut, providing a visual reference for controlling cut depth precisely — particularly valuable in nasal bone work where over-penetration could affect adjacent structures or produce an uneven osteotomy result.

Hollow Cut Blade

A hollow-cut blade profile is concave along its cutting face, which can help the blade track more predictably along a curved bone surface and may reduce the tendency of the blade to skip or wander compared with a flat-faced blade, depending on the specific bone contour being addressed.

Two Widths

The 5.0mm width suits finer, more controlled cuts; the 12.0mm width is used for broader bone work where more material needs to be addressed per pass.

Clinical Use

This chisel is used in rhinoplasty and septorhinoplasty for graduated, depth-controlled bone cutting as part of the Cottle instrument technique.

Manufactured from surgical-grade stainless steel and hand-finished in Sialkot, Pakistan, with laser-etched or engraved graduation markings and a precisely ground hollow-cut cutting edge.

Sterilization and Care

Fully autoclavable in both widths. The cutting edge should be inspected before each use for nicks or dulling, and the graduation markings checked for legibility.
