Wedge-Shaped Blade

Unlike a flat-bladed osteotome used primarily for cutting, a wedge osteotome's tapered profile is designed to be inserted into an existing cut or split and then used to gently lever the two bone surfaces apart, completing the separation with controlled, distributed force rather than a further cutting action — a distinct mechanical role from the splitting osteotome that makes the initial cut.

Four Widths

The range from 8.0mm to 16mm lets the surgeon select a wedge width matched to the size of the bone segment being separated, from finer to more substantial osteotomy sites.

Clinical Use

This osteotome is used in orthognathic surgery, particularly sagittal split ramus osteotomy, for the controlled separation of bone segments following the initial splitting cut.
