About this instrument

Guyton-Park Lid Speculum, Solid Blade, Nasal Approach — Overview

The Guyton-Park Lid Speculum with a solid blade, nasal approach (SA-790-78) shares the substantial frame, 14mm blade, integrated suture post, canthus bar, and 38mm spread of the fenestrated version, but with solid rather than perforated blades, for surgeons who prefer firm, continuous blade contact over the fluid-permeable fenestrated design.

Solid Blade vs. Fenestrated

Where the fenestrated version reduces contact area and allows fluid passage, this solid-blade version provides continuous, even contact along the full blade surface, which some surgeons prefer for the retraction stability it offers, particularly in procedures with less irrigation or where consistent, unbroken lid margin contact is prioritized over fluid drainage through the blade.

Suture Post and Canthus Bar

As with the fenestrated version, this design integrates a suture post for traction or bridle suture fixation and a canthus bar for lateral canthal support, making it a more surgically capable instrument than a standard retractor alone, suited to procedures requiring both exposure and additional fixation.

38mm Spread, 14mm Blade

The 38mm spread and 14mm solid blade provide substantial, stable exposure appropriate for oculoplastic, reconstructive, and complex anterior segment procedures requiring maximal access.

Clinical Use

This speculum is used in oculoplastic and reconstructive ophthalmic surgery, and in complex anterior segment cases, by surgeons who specifically prefer solid over fenestrated blade contact alongside the integrated suture post and canthus bar features.

Material and Construction

Manufactured from surgical-grade stainless steel and hand-finished in Sialkot, Pakistan, built to the same robust standard as the fenestrated version of this design.

Sterilization and Care

Fully autoclavable. The suture post and solid blade edges should be inspected for wear and deformation before each use, alongside standard spring tension checks.
