Josephberg Besser Double Ended Scleral Depressor Overview

A double ended scleral depressor with the curved Josephberg Besser tip, shaped to the globe, at one end. Its designers describe the double tip version as similar to a Schocket except for that curved tip. The name is also written Josephberg-Besser.

How It Compares

Choose it if you like the Schocket layout but want one end shaped to the globe. If you only need the curved tip, the Josephberg Besser single ended is the simpler, shorter instrument.

Clinical Use

Scleral depression during indirect ophthalmoscopy, retinal examination and retinal surgery, pressing gently on the sclera through the lid to bring the peripheral retina into view.

Material and Construction

Surgical grade stainless steel, hand finished in Sialkot, Pakistan, with a smooth, atraumatic tip.

Sterilization and Care

Supplied non-sterile. Clean and sterilize it before first use. It is fully autoclavable and made for repeated use. Rinse it straight after use, clean it with a neutral pH detergent, and never use saline or abrasive cleaners. Inspect the tip before each use: it must be smooth, with no burr or scratch.
