About this instrument

Flynn Lens Loop Scleral Depressor Overview

The Flynn combines a lens loop and a scleral depressor end on one 8.25cm square handle instrument. The surgeon can position a contact lens and depress the sclera without changing instruments.

Design and Specifications

  • Lens loop at one end, depressor at the other
  • Full length 8.25cm
  • Square handle
  • Reusable, supplied non-sterile

How It Compares

Choose the Flynn when a contact lens is handled during the same procedure. For depression alone, the Schocket and O'Connor add a marking end, and the Schepens is the thimble design.

Clinical Use

Scleral depression during indirect ophthalmoscopy, retinal examination and retinal surgery, pressing gently on the sclera through the lid to bring the peripheral retina into view.

Material and Construction

Surgical grade stainless steel, hand finished in Sialkot, Pakistan, with a smooth, atraumatic tip.

Sterilization and Care

Supplied non-sterile. Clean and sterilize it before first use. It is fully autoclavable and made for repeated use. Rinse it straight after use, clean it with a neutral pH detergent, and never use saline or abrasive cleaners. Inspect the tip before each use: it must be smooth, with no burr or scratch. See our instrument care guide.
