The O'Connor is a double ended scleral depressor with a teardrop depressor end and a Gass marking end. The examiner can depress and mark without changing instruments.
The O'Connor and the Schocket are both double ended with a marking end. The O'Connor has a teardrop depressor end and a finer Gass marking end, while the Schocket has a rounded end, a wider curved marking end and a pocket clip. For a depressor worn on the finger, see the Schepens.
Scleral depression during indirect ophthalmoscopy, retinal examination and retinal surgery, pressing gently on the sclera through the lid to bring the peripheral retina into view.
Surgical grade stainless steel, hand finished in Sialkot, Pakistan, with a smooth, atraumatic tip.
Supplied non-sterile. Clean and sterilize it before first use. It is fully autoclavable and made for repeated use. Rinse it straight after use, clean it with a neutral pH detergent, and never use saline or abrasive cleaners. Inspect the tip before each use: it must be smooth, with no burr or scratch.
